Coordinating School-Wide Student Events Example
Planning and executing school-wide events for students is so important in building a positive school culture. As a co-leader of the College and Career Access for All team, I supported many different school-wide events that exposed students to different colleges and career fields.
Below are samples from the planning that had to be done in order to hold a career day. We use a program called Beable that provides students career readiness, while providing literacy support. We used the data from student's RIASEC scores to match classes with presenters. We then developed a schedule for the day to include activities for teachers to do with students, along with providing each class with speakers. When it comes to student events, voice is extremely important. Therefore, a post-event survey is something that is extremely important as well to conduct after each event.

Coordinating Family Event Example
Involving families into the education of their children is very important. My belief is that as school leaders, we should make every effort to engage families as much as possible. This does not only include parent teacher conferences, but designing well-thought out events for families to participate in can leave a long-lasting positive effect on a child's experience in school. Below you will two examples of events that I facilitated. The first one is an example of an event that I co-led with the dual language team, virtually.. We developed a survey for families to express what type of event they would be most interested in, and created teams to lead those events. Families enjoyed connecting with their intimate families as well as the school community.
The second one is an example of a family testing meeting that I led with the support of the parent coordinator. A second event that I led was a family testing information session to launch the Spring testing season. The purpose of this session was to provide families with information about the structure of the assessments, how we are preparing the students, and what parents can do at home to support their child. I leveraged the support of our parent coordinator to ensure the event was successful. To provide access to families who could not join us in person, we recorded a session and sent it out to families to view virtually.
Coordinating Community Service Example
Partner with the NYCOBA National Organization of Minority Architects to plan an annual Saturday camp day where students are exposed to the field of architecture. Students design and develop their own plans for actual vacant spaces in our East Harlem neighborhood. Volunteers from this organization provide the students with the knowledge and tools to explore this career field through hands-on learning. This is an extremely positive experience for students as it allows them to get into early exploration of this STEM related field.
